Safe but stuck?
The greatest things in life tend to happen outside our comfort zones, and doubting your ability to step outside of your comfort zone will keep you stuck.
(Amy Morin)

You’ve played it safe but you’re stuck. Maybe there is something out there that is better, but you’re not prepared to risk it.  You’re filled with doubts about your ability to cope, should you step out of your comfort zone.

What about the next generation? They’re different and bound to have different aspirations.  Do you want them to walk this same path as you, when you’re no longer sure whether your old beliefs still apply today?   It is comfortable right now. Moreover, you are not willing to step out of your comfort zone, because that may change who you are.  But you are not your beliefs. You are the person who chooses your beliefs. Your comfortable life may be imprisoning you.

Test to see if you are believing a lie.  Ask yourself, what is the belief that is holding you back from venturing out. Is it motivated by fear? What are you fearful of? Evaluate the answer.  Is the fear still valid? That will reveal whether you’re believing a lie. Renounce the lie.

Don’t be afraid of change.  Changing your choices or even what you think, won’t change who you are. Your identity is not tied to making safe choices. Give yourself permission to explore and experiment with options.

“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you in trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Mark Twain.

It is important to take out your old beliefs and examine them periodically, to test their validity and relevance.  In life, nothing stays the same even if you don’t like change. Circumstances change. What works yesterday may not do so well today. It’s a bright new day, time to explore change!

The Eagle

Once a farmer found an abandoned eagle’s nest and in it was an egg, still warm.  He took the egg back to his farm and laid it in the nest of one of his hens.

The egg hatched and the baby eagle grew up along with the other chickens. It pecked about the farmyard, scrabbling for grain.  It spent its life within the yard and rarely looked up.

When it was very old, one day it lifted up its head and saw above it a wonderful sight – an eagle soaring high above in the sky.

Looking at it, the old bird sighed and said to itself,”If only I’d been born an eagle.”
