It’s familiar, is it safe?
Is-familiar-safe
Sometimes, it takes more courage to keep moving forward even away from what’s familiar.
(Anna G.)

Are you clinging onto something familiar? Do you believe that it’s better to be safe than sorry? Is the familiar always safer?

You’re scared, so filled with fear and doubt. You look around desperately for something familiar to cling onto. Even if it is an abusive relationship, where what’s good in it is long past.

Are you looking for a way out? Sometimes it’s found in the way forward.  So don’t keep looking back.  While whatever is ahead may be uncertain and feel unfamiliar, but as long as you are still alive, there is hope. Don’t give up!

Have you discovered the purpose you’re here on earth for?  You never really know what you are truly capable of. That’s why, all the more, you need to take the time to look for the answer.

That’s what you do when you’re playing a game; explore and discover what it takes to win, and try as hard as you can to stay alive as long as possible ,while you pursue the quest.

Life is more than a game. You only have one chance at it because at the end of life, it’s game over. There’s no reset button to try life all over again.  But along the journey of life, as long you’re still alive, you can make the choice to restart your life anywhere on this journey. While the consequences of your past mistakes may not go away or worse catch up to you, it is always better to restart life on another path, than cling to the familiar wrong path.

So don’t give up on life. It may not be all bad. There is more to it than what you’ve experienced. Even if you feel you’re not very good where you are right now, it doesn’t mean you won’t get better.

If you want to restart, then prepare for what’s to come.  You can do it slowly. Just don’t turn around and wish for better days, unless you’ve made bad choices and you’re stuck in a very bad situation right now.  Then get out of that bad situation.  Get help.  There is hope.

Do you know a baby’s grip is so strong that it can support its own weight.  Weak things are stronger than we think they are.  God has made them that way so that their chances of survival are high.

So do you feel particularly weak right now? Then you can exercise that inner strength whose muscles you’ve not flexed before.

Move forward, cautiously if you’re hesitant. Just a little step at a time.  Being prepared helps.  You may not totally escape what you’re experiencing, but you’ll be able to handle it better knowing that you have choices.

Don’t let your past failures or fears trap you. Choose to move forward. There is a new beginning waiting for you. You never know, when the next wind of adversity comes your way, you may be more prepared than you are today.  It’s your choice.  Cling to Hope. You’re alive! Keep moving.

When the Wind Blows

Once there lived a farmer who owned a piece of property along the coast of the Atlantic ocean. Even after repeated advertisements for someone to help take care of his farm, no one expressed any interest nor signed up for it. It seemed people were reluctant to work by the Atlantic coast because of frequent raging storms. These storms were violent and destructive, destroying anything they touched. In desperation, this landowner approached a fellow farmer and asked him for help to take care of the farm.

Because the neighbor’s land was much smaller than his, the farmer asked him, “Do you have any skills or experience to work on a farm like this?”

“Well, I may not have enough experience, but I can sleep when the wind blows”, replied the man.  Although the landowner wasn’t very convinced by his neighbor’s answer, he still hired him because he was desperate for an extra pair of hands.

Fortunately, the man worked well around the farm and the landowner was pleased. Then on one stormy night, the landowner awoke to the howling winds. He immediately got out of his bed, grabbed a lantern, and headed towards his neighbor’s house.

“Wake up” the farmer yelled, throwing the soundly asleep man off the bed.  “A storm is coming.  Help me tie things down before they get blown away”.

The man sat up and said,”No sir, I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.”

The farmer turned red with fury after listening to this.  Because it was more important to secure his fields and to argue with his helper, the farmer ran out to tie the things up and was surprised by what he saw.

All of the haystacks were covered with tarpaulins.  The chickens were in the coops, the cows were in the barn, the doors were closed and barred, and the shutters were firmly secured. Everything was tied down so that nothing could be blown away.  The farmer smiled as he comprehended what his helper said.  Now, he understood what the man meant when he said he could sleep when the wind blows. Relieved, the landowner went back to bed and slept soundly through the storm.

MORAL:

When you’re prepared physically, mentally and spiritually, you have nothing to fear.  Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life?
