Success is like a wild horse. If you do not know how to handle it, it will throw you off and look for another rider who can handle it well.

Yes, I can do it, yes, I can… no I can’t! Why can’t I? If they can, I can.
I’m sure you must have had these thoughts going through your head before. You keep telling yourself you can achieve; “I can, I can, I can”, and you sound almost like a ‘choo-choo’ train. But the truth is you can’t brainwash yourself into being a success, no matter what successful gurus tell you.
This is because merely thinking about success doesn’t bring success. Rather you need to take action; you have to do something about it. Determination plays a large part in being successful. But you’re not going to get there by just desiring. You have to truly decide what it is you really want. Comparing yourself with others won’t help either. And it may even lead you to a wrong path or you feel discouraged.
To be successful, you have to ask yourself what do you like to do, and what gives you satisfaction when you are doing it. Now it may not be the best thing you like to spend your time on, but you’re good at doing it. That really helps you go the extra mile.
Then stay focused on developing that skill. As no famous pianist got where they are without practice, the same principle applies to any area you choose to do well in. You have to invest your time, effort and sometimes even money into it. Remember, choose to do what is right, with what you are good at.
But most importantly, make sure you lay a good foundation of good values and principles, or else your success won’t last. The old adage of what goes around, comes around is a universal truth. You will reap what you sow. While it may not happen in your lifetime, what you sow will surely visit the generations after you.
As success is like trying to ride a wild horse, you can’t be sure when you will be thrown off and when the horse decides to find a new rider. You do you best, but you can’t control the outcome of your actions.
So don’t focus on success; it’s not controllable. Focus instead on values. This is because good values attract legacy and invest in long-term relationships. That is what counts in life. Each of us has a limited time on earth. We will have to account for what we have done here during this transient period of our lives. So make it count!
Invest in relationships, with family, with friends, with God. If you don’t believe in God, then invest in people that you can see. Their needs, their hopes – that is true success. You’re building a legacy that will outlast your life. God will find you too if you do what is right.
So what is success to you? Set actionable goals. Do what is right. Be humble. You’re set to go.

Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?
There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse who tilled his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills. When all the farmer’s neighbors expressed sympathy to the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied,”Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?”
A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills. Upon seeing this, the old farmer’s neighbors rallied around him and congratulated him on his good luck. The farmer’s reply was the same. He said, ‘Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?”
Then, when the farmer’s son attempted to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this was very bad luck. But not the farmer, whose only reaction was, “Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?”
Some weeks later the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer’s son with his broken leg they let him off. Now was that good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?
